Grievances About Your Manager

A grievance about your manager needs careful handling because the person you normally report concerns to is part of the complaint. The document should focus on specific conduct, decisions and evidence rather than presenting the relationship as a general personality conflict.

Use the route above or outside the management line

The departmental policy should explain who receives a grievance where the line manager is involved. This may be a countersigning manager, a senior manager or HR contact. Confirm who will decide the complaint and how day-to-day management will be handled while it is considered.

Separate difficult management from grievance issues

Firm feedback, monitoring or unpopular decisions are not automatically bullying or unfair treatment. The grievance should identify what was inaccurate, inconsistent, humiliating, retaliatory, discriminatory or procedurally improper and show why.
