Can you apply for another Civil Service role during probation?
Vacancy rules may allow applications, restrict internal moves or require completion of probation. External campaigns may operate differently from internal transfer opportunities. Read the advert and ask the recruitment contact rather than assuming.
Does completed probation transfer?
Some departments do not require established civil servants who have already completed probation to serve another period. That does not answer what happens when probation is still incomplete. The receiving department may require a new or continued probation period.
Why timing matters
A move can protect you from a poor manager or unsuitable role, but outstanding concerns, formal processes, notice requirements or start-date delays may affect it. Do not resign from the current role until the new appointment is secure and terms are clear.
