Employment History and Relevant Skills and Experience examples for EO, HEO, SEO and Grade 7
Civil Service application forms often separate Employment History from Previous Skills and Experience. Employment History is normally a factual timeline. Previous Skills and Experience is where you map concise evidence against the vacancy requirements.
The CV section should set up the evidence. Fuller examples belong in the personal statement and behaviour sections.

Read the vacancy instructions first
Recruitment campaigns use CV boxes differently. Some request job titles and dates only. Others ask for duties, achievements, named criteria or a fixed word count. Follow the wording in the vacancy and candidate pack first.
Employment History
Unless the vacancy asks for more, use Employment History as a plain factual timeline. Include the employer, job title and dates.
~ Department for Public Services | Operational Team Leader | April 2024 to present
~ Regional Support Agency | Senior Caseworker | January 2022 to March 2024
~ Northborough Council | Customer Adviser | August 2019 to December 2021
Relevant Skills and Experience
Use one concise evidence slot for every important point in the advert. This includes essential criteria, relevant desirable criteria, responsibilities and person specification requirements.
Use the advert wording as the label where it helps the sifter. Follow it with specific evidence showing where you used the skill and what you did.
Do not write a complete STAR answer under every heading. The section should be easy to scan and should leave the fuller story for the personal statement or behaviour statement.
Short HEO example
~ Operational leadership: Managed four team leaders and around forty staff in a benefits reconsideration service, using queue age, quality and complaint data to set priorities and return the backlog to the agreed operating range.
This is the right level of detail for one evidence slot. It identifies the requirement, setting, responsibility and useful outcome without becoming a full application story.
Common mistakes
~ Writing a career summary that does not follow the advert.
~ Turning every criterion into a full STAR answer.
~ Repeating the same detailed example later in the personal statement.
~ Naming management skills without giving any evidence.
~ Combining several essential criteria so broadly that one of them is never answered.
~ Using evidence that does not match the advertised grade.
