EO Civil Service Employment History and Relevant Skills and Experience examples
DWP Work Coach applications may ask for Employment History and can also ask for evidence about previous skills or experience. Treat these sections differently so the sifter can see both your factual background and your strongest match to the vacancy.
Where the live application gives a different format or word limit, follow that instruction first.

How the two CV boxes work together
Employment History
Use Employment History as a factual timeline. Include employer, job title and dates. Add role detail only when the application form asks for it.
Previous Skills and Experience
Use this section to match evidence to the Work Coach vacancy. If the form allows you to change the heading, Relevant Skills and Experience makes the purpose clear.
Scoring and format warning
Civil Service CV sections do not have one universal scoring method. DWP campaigns can also change the evidence requested. Read the advert, person specification and application form carefully before writing. A clear instruction in the vacancy takes priority over a generic CV method.
What experience can support an EO Work Coach application
- Communicating clearly with customers who have different needs or levels of confidence.
- Understanding detailed information and turning it into a clear explanation.
- Coaching or guiding someone so they can take their own next step.
- Managing challenging conversations in a calm and professional way.
- Using several computer systems while maintaining accurate customer records.
- Managing a workload or caseload against service priorities and deadlines.
- Using judgement to decide when to refer or escalate a customer for specialist help.
Short free example
Customer communication: Supported customers in a regulated contact centre by listening to the full issue, checking the account record and explaining complex process requirements in plain language before confirming the next action.
This is stronger than writing “good communication skills” because it shows the setting and the action. The member examples below build the same method across the full Work Coach person specification.
Common CV mistakes
- Repeating a full personal statement in Employment History.
- Listing software packages without showing how digital confidence helped a customer or service.
- Using broad claims such as excellent customer service with no evidence.
- Making every evidence point about the same incident.
- Leaving the Work Coach coaching requirement weak when your background includes training, mentoring or support experience.
- Copying DWP language so closely that your actual experience becomes hard to see.
