HR meetings about health or sickness may cover absence, return to work, fitness for duties, Occupational Health, reasonable adjustments or how health affects another workplace process. The meeting should focus on work impact and support rather than expecting you or your manager to make medical judgements.

Common health-related HR meetings
- Return-to-work discussions after sickness absence.
- Attendance reviews after a trigger point or longer absence.
- Meetings to discuss a fit note or phased return.
- Occupational Health referral and report discussions.
- Reasonable-adjustment meetings and reviews.
- Health discussions during performance, discipline or another formal process.
What the meeting may need to establish
The useful questions are usually how health affects work, attendance or participation; what support has been tried; what medical or Occupational Health advice exists; what adjustment may reduce a disadvantage; and when arrangements should be reviewed. The department should still use its current policy and keep medical information appropriately limited.
Do not leave adjustments as an informal understanding
Where a change matters to your ability to work or attend meetings, ask for it in writing, explain the disadvantage it addresses and ask for a written decision and review date.
Members can unlock: a health-meeting preparation pack, work-impact framework, Occupational Health request wording, adjustment menu, refusal follow-up, sickness-meeting questions and a plan for protecting your position when health overlaps with performance or discipline.
