1. What are the AA Leadership criteria?

At AA and AO level, Leadership means showing that you can:

  • show enthusiasm for your work and take personal accountability for your role
  • demonstrate responsibility for your own objectives
  • act in a fair, inclusive and respectful way when dealing with others
  • be considerate and understanding of other people’s points of view
  • understand and support the objectives of the wider team
  • demonstrate consideration of the wider consequences of own actions

At AA level, leadership is shown through responsibility and example. Strong evidence can involve taking ownership of an objective, helping others stay focused or treating people fairly when pressure rises. The panel should hear how your actions supported the team and considered the consequences for others.

2. What are good examples to use for Leadership?

Taking ownership of an important task

Choose a task where you accepted responsibility, kept it moving and made sure the required standard was achieved.

Setting a positive example during pressure

Use a busy or difficult situation where your attitude and conduct helped colleagues remain professional and focused.

Supporting a colleague to succeed

A strong example can show how you shared guidance, encouraged someone and gave them space to complete their responsibility.

Promoting fair and respectful treatment

Choose a situation where you considered another person’s view or spoke up for an inclusive way of working.

Avoid inflating the example into team management. AA leadership evidence is strongest when it clearly shows personal accountability, respectful conduct and a positive effect on the wider team.
