A grievance appeal is a focused challenge to the outcome or the way it was reached. It is most effective when it identifies a material error, connects that error to the result and asks for a defined remedy.

Check the appeal deadline immediately
Read the departmental policy and outcome letter as soon as they arrive. Appeal timescales can be short. Ask for an extension where needed, but do not assume it will be granted. A holding appeal can identify the main grounds and state when supporting detail will follow.
Common grievance appeal grounds
Grounds may include unsupported findings, ignored evidence, unfair process, failure to address a grievance point, new evidence, lack of independence or an outcome that does not resolve the problem. Use the wording and grounds in your policy where available.
