Complete Changing and Improving, Making Effective Decisions and Communicating and Influencing examples from EO to Grade 7
Business Analyst behaviour statements should still be behaviour statements. The BA setting provides the evidence, while the actions need to demonstrate the Civil Service behaviour at the grade being assessed.
The behaviours selected here are Changing and Improving, Making Effective Decisions and Communicating and Influencing because they align closely with current Business Analyst work and appear in recent recruitment. Your vacancy may assess different behaviours.

What strong Business Analyst behaviour evidence looks like
Use a specific situation where your analysis changed understanding, a decision or a way of working. The answer should make your behaviour visible through what you personally did. Do not rely on the fact that you created a process map, ran a workshop or wrote user stories.
At EO, examples can show initiative within a defined piece of work. HEO examples should show more independent judgement and stakeholder management. SEO examples should show wider complexity and influence across teams. Grade 7 examples should show strategic impact, leadership through others and decisions affecting a broader area.
Common reasons Business Analyst behaviour statements score poorly
- The answer explains the analysis technique in detail but barely shows the behaviour.
- Stakeholder activity is described as attendance rather than challenge, listening or influence.
- The candidate accepts the first requested solution instead of showing analysis and judgement.
- The result is a document or workshop rather than a better decision, clearer need or improved service.
- The grade level comes from impressive terminology rather than greater responsibility or complexity.
- Senior examples show the candidate doing every analysis task personally and leave leadership through other analysts unclear.
