Caseworker CV and Previous Skills Examples

How to use Employment History and Previous Skills and Experience in AO, EO and HEO Caseworker applications

The Civil Service CV section can look simple, but the two boxes often do different jobs. Employment History is usually the factual timeline. Previous Skills and Experience is where you make the strongest matches to the Caseworker vacancy.

Use the advert as the final instruction. Departments can request a specific format or word limit, and some campaigns score the CV differently. The method below is designed to make your evidence easy to match against the role while keeping the factual history clear.

Employment History

Keep Employment History factual unless the application form asks for duties. Give the employer, job title and dates. Short role detail can be added where the vacancy requests it, but avoid filling this box with the same evidence that belongs in Previous Skills and Experience.

A simple history helps the sifter see the progression of your work. The detailed casework evidence should sit in the section where you can match the essential criteria directly.

Scoring and format warning

Civil Service CV instructions vary between vacancies. Some adverts give a word limit or ask for specific information. Others provide little detail about how the section will be assessed. Read the advert, person specification and any attached documents before writing. Where a vacancy gives a clear instruction, follow that instruction first.

The method used on civilservicecareers.org/ is a practical way to organise relevant evidence. It cannot guarantee a sift pass because the criteria and scoring approach remain campaign-specific.

Relevant Skills and Experience

Where the form allows, use the heading Relevant Skills and Experience. Create one evidence slot for each important advert point. Put essential criteria first and combine only closely related requirements when space is limited.

For Caseworker roles, evidence becomes stronger when each slot shows the setting, your action and the standard or outcome. A list of systems or duties gives the assessor less to score than a short explanation of how you used them to progress accurate cases.

What Caseworker evidence should cover

  • Evidence handling and accurate record keeping
  • Use of guidance, policy or defined procedures
  • Customer communication and difficult conversations
  • Workload prioritisation and deadline control
  • Decision making or support to decisions at the level of the role
  • Quality checking, escalation or service improvement where the grade requires it

Members can unlock complete AO, EO and HEO Caseworker CV examples, including Employment History and a criteria-mapped Relevant Skills and Experience section for each grade.
