HEO, SEO and Grade 7 Civil Service Delivery Manager CV and Relevant Skills and Experience examples
Civil Service Delivery Manager applications often ask for Employment History and a separate Previous Skills and Experience section. Treat them as different jobs: the history gives the factual timeline, while the skills section maps concise evidence to the vacancy criteria.
Where the form lets you choose the heading, Relevant Skills and Experience is usually clearer. The section should help a sifter locate evidence quickly. It should not become a collection of mini behaviour statements.

Employment History
Keep the employment timeline factual unless the vacancy explicitly asks for detail. A simple format is enough:
Department or employer | Delivery Manager | March 2024 to present
Department or employer | Scrum Master | January 2022 to February 2024
Department or employer | Service Improvement Officer | June 2019 to December 2021
Relevant Skills and Experience
Use the advert wording as labels where it helps. Each evidence slot should identify a real setting, your contribution and a useful output or result. One or two sentences is normally enough. Full STAR evidence belongs in the personal statement and behaviour sections.
Public example
~ Maintaining delivery momentum: Led the benefits service team through a six-week identity-platform delay, re-sequenced independent work and used a weekly dependency check so blocked items did not consume team capacity.
What evidence to map
- Agile and Lean practices, including why you selected or adapted an approach.
- Planning, forecasting and use of delivery evidence.
- Risks, issues, blockers and dependencies, including ownership outside the team.
- Team dynamics, facilitation, coaching and conflict resolution.
- Communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement and making a process work.
- Life-cycle delivery and movement between discovery, alpha, beta or live where relevant.
- Commercial or supplier management where the vacancy asks for it.
- Financial awareness or budget responsibility where relevant to the level.
Grade difference in a CV evidence map
HEO
Show practical team delivery, visible blockers, appropriate Agile or Lean practice and dependable communication. Evidence can be tightly scoped as long as you personally owned the action described.
SEO
Show independent planning, more difficult dependencies, stakeholder challenge and improvement of an established delivery system. Evidence should demonstrate why your judgement mattered.
Grade 7
Show complex delivery, leadership through others, cross-service planning, senior escalation and broader commercial or financial judgement where required. Avoid filling the section with team-ceremony detail.
Common CV mistakes
- Repeating the same paragraph under several criterion labels.
- Listing Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence or Miro as evidence without describing what you achieved with them.
- Writing full STAR answers that make the section difficult to scan.
- Using generic claims such as excellent stakeholder management with no setting or action.
- Describing Agile frameworks without evidence that you adapted practice to the team or problem.
- At Grade 7, presenting only direct team facilitation rather than leadership across complex delivery.
