EO Civil Service behaviour statements for DWP Work Coach applications
Strong Work Coach behaviour statements show practical EO-level judgement in a customer-facing setting. The example should make your own decision clear and stay within the 250-word limit.
The behaviour or behaviours used in a campaign can change. The examples below focus on four behaviours that fit the role closely: Communicating and Influencing, Managing a Quality Service, Making Effective Decisions and Delivering at Pace.

How to structure a 250-word EO behaviour statement
Keep the situation brief. State the responsibility you held and spend most of the words on the choices you made. Explain how you used information or adapted your approach. Finish with a result that shows service, progress or quality.
EO examples should show more than following a script. The assessor should see a fair decision, clear ownership or a communication choice that helped move the situation forward.
Common behaviour statement mistakes
- Using several small examples when one deeper example would show stronger judgement.
- Spending too many words describing the customer’s background.
- Using “we” for the important actions and making ownership unclear.
- Claiming powers or benefit decisions that were outside your real role.
- Giving a strong result with no explanation of how it was measured.
- Writing a Work Coach story first and trying to force the named behaviour onto it afterwards.
