What the interview may assess
The assessment section of the vacancy is the controlling source. Executive support interviews can include behaviours, strengths, experience questions and practical scenarios. Some roles add a written task or diary exercise.
- Organisation and prioritisation when several requests are urgent.
- Quality and accuracy in diaries, papers, correspondence and records.
- Communication with senior colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Judgement about what can be resolved and what needs escalation.
- Confidentiality and professional handling of sensitive information.
- Teamwork across private offices or support teams.
How AO and EO answers should differ
AO answers should show reliable delivery, clear communication and sensible escalation. EO answers should show stronger independent judgement, negotiation and ownership of the support process.
Common interview mistakes
- Saying everything is urgent without explaining how you decide what comes first.
- Talking about diary software instead of the judgement behind the diary.
- Giving a long situation and very little personal action.
- Assuming seniority means every stakeholder request should be accepted.
- For strengths, giving a rehearsed behaviour speech instead of a shorter natural response.
- For scenario questions, jumping to an answer before gathering the missing information.
Continue for eight complete model answers: four AO questions and four EO questions covering behaviour, experience, strengths and practical executive support scenarios.
