A return to work should confirm that you are fit for the proposed arrangement, identify support, update absence records and reduce the risk of an avoidable relapse. The meeting should be more than a form to complete.

What the return discussion should cover
- The dates and reason recorded for the absence.
- Current fitness and any fit-note advice.
- Changes to hours, duties, location or equipment.
- Medication or treatment effects relevant to work.
- Contact, workload and review arrangements.
Return does not always mean full duties
You may return through adjusted hours, amended duties, a phased plan or other support. If the fit note says you may be fit with changes, discuss whether those changes can be provided before assuming you must remain absent or return without support.
Members can unlock: a first-month return plan, meeting agenda, workload and boundary checklist, symptom-monitoring method, relapse-response plan and wording for confirming support or challenging an unsafe return arrangement.
