Scenario
A new starter has completed their initial training and is now accurate on routine cases. They ask if they can begin learning a more complex case type. An experienced colleague suggests keeping them on routine work because this helps the team meet its daily output. There is time in next week’s plan for some supported learning, and the new starter will eventually need to handle the complex work as part of the role. You are coordinating their work for the week, although you are not their line manager. You want to support development while protecting current case quality.
Rate the actions
For each action, choose Counterproductive, Ineffective, Fairly Effective or Effective.
Action A
Give the new starter a complex case immediately and tell them to ask for help if they become stuck.
