Final Pay, Annual Leave and Deductions

Final Civil Service pay can differ from a normal payslip because salary, leave, flexi, overtime, allowances, expenses, pension contributions and deductions may all need adjustment. Obtain a written breakdown and check the final payslip.

Annual leave

Statutory leave accrued and untaken at the end of employment must normally be paid. Departments can apply separate rules to contractual leave above the statutory minimum.

If you have taken more leave than accrued, a deduction may be made where the contract or agreement allows it.

Other final-pay items

  • Salary up to the employment end date.
  • Notice pay where applicable.
  • Approved overtime or allowances.
  • Outstanding expenses.
  • Untaken leave payment.
  • Pension deductions.
  • Loans, salary advances or training deductions.
  • Recovery of overpayments.

Check the dates

Ask which payroll run will contain the final payment and when a corrected payment will be made if information misses the cut-off.

Keep your final payslip and P45.

Civil Service departments use different contracts, policies and approval routes. Check your own contract, intranet guidance, scheme documents and any letter you have received before acting.

Members can unlock the final-pay audit, leave calculation checklist, deduction challenge wording and a line-by-line method for checking the last payslip against the agreed leaving terms.
