Communications Officer Behaviour Statement Examples

Complete Communicating and Influencing, Delivering at Pace and Working Together examples from EO to Grade 7

Communications behaviour statements still need to answer the Civil Service behaviour being assessed. The communications setting provides the evidence, while your actions must demonstrate the behaviour at the correct grade.

What strong communications behaviour evidence looks like

Choose examples where communication activity created a real decision, delivery challenge or stakeholder problem. A statement that only says you wrote content or attended meetings will usually leave too much of the behaviour unproven.

  • Make the audience, objective and communication problem clear enough for the actions to make sense.
  • Show your own judgement, especially where you challenged wording, changed channels, handled pressure or resolved disagreement.
  • Keep the result connected to the behaviour. A communication metric is useful only when it helps explain whether the intended outcome was achieved.
  • Match the level of authority to the grade. Senior statements should show wider ownership, influence and accountability through others.

Common reasons communications behaviour statements score poorly

  • The statement describes campaign activity but never answers the named behaviour.
  • The applicant claims influence because a message was published, with no evidence that they changed a decision or secured agreement.
  • The action section becomes a list of channels rather than the applicant’s reasoning and judgement.
  • The result relies on reach or impressions without linking them to the objective.
  • A senior example shows the applicant doing all the writing personally while strategic leadership remains unclear.
