Employment History and concise Relevant Skills and Experience examples from EO to Grade 7
Civil Service applications can separate Employment History from Previous Skills and Experience. Employment History is normally a factual timeline. Previous Skills and Experience is where you map concise evidence against the vacancy requirements.
The CV section should set up the evidence. Fuller examples belong in the personal statement and behaviour sections.

Read the vacancy instructions first
Recruitment campaigns use CV boxes differently. Some request job titles and dates only. Others ask for duties, achievements, named criteria or a fixed word count. Follow the instructions in the vacancy before applying the examples on this page.
Employment History
Unless the vacancy asks for more, keep Employment History factual and easy to scan.
~ Department for Public Services | Communications Officer | April 2024 to present
~ Regional Services Agency | Content and Engagement Officer | January 2022 to March 2024
~ Northborough Council | Customer Communications Assistant | August 2019 to December 2021
Relevant Skills and Experience
Use one concise evidence slot for each important advert requirement. Use the requirement as the label where useful, then give specific evidence showing where you used the skill and what you contributed.
Do not write a full STAR answer under every heading. The section should be easy to scan and should leave the detailed story for the personal statement or behaviour statement.
Short HEO example
~ Audience insight: Reviewed call-centre themes, partner feedback and page behaviour for the National Appointment Change, identified the audiences most likely to misunderstand the new evidence requirement and used the findings to shape customer and partner communication.
That is enough detail for one CV evidence slot. It identifies the skill, context and contribution without becoming a narrative example.
Common mistakes
- Writing a general career summary instead of matching the vacancy requirements.
- Turning every criterion into a mini STAR answer.
- Listing channels or software without explaining how you used them.
- Claiming campaign success with no indication of the objective or your contribution.
- Repeating the same detailed wording later in the personal statement.
