Communication criteria appear in many EO vacancies because the grade often sits between operational detail and people who need concise, usable information. Strong evidence may come from customers, colleagues, managers, suppliers, partner organisations or technical users.

How to show communication skills in an EO personal statement
A good example starts with a communication need, not with the fact that you sent an email or delivered a presentation. Explain what the audience needed to understand, why the subject was difficult, how you chose the channel, what questions or resistance arose and what happened after your communication.
What strong communication skills evidence needs to show
Common advert wording
- “Excellent written and verbal communication skills”
- “Able to explain complex information clearly to different audiences”
- “Confident handling challenging conversations”
Why weak evidence loses value
Weak communication paragraphs often list channels without showing purpose. They may say the applicant wrote emails, attended meetings and communicated with stakeholders, but give no difficult information, audience difference, response or outcome.
