EO Interview Questions Making Effective Decisions Interview Questions
EO behaviour interview
Show fair, timely judgement based on reliable evidence and clear reasoning
EO decision answers need more than a positive outcome. The panel will examine how you gathered information, involved relevant people, compared options, considered cost, risk and accessibility, then took responsibility for a timely and fair decision within your authority.

What the panel is testing

At EO level, prepare evidence that you can gather reliable information, compare options and take accountable, fair decisions. The panel will test the detail behind your actions, including what you knew, what you decided, how you involved other people and how the outcome was checked.

Official EO behaviour criteria
  • take responsibility for making effective and fair decisions, in a timely manner
  • analyse and research further information to support decisions
  • talk to relevant people to get advice and information when unsure how to proceed
  • explain how decisions have been reached in a clear and concise way, both verbally and in writing
  • demonstrate the consideration of all options, costs, risks and wider implications, including the diverse needs of end users and any accessibility requirements

Use the EO Behaviour Statements guide to prepare written behaviour evidence. Strength questions use a different approach and are covered in the global Civil Service Strengths Interview Questions guide.
