A strong Grade 6 application starts with the vacancy, not with a reusable list of achievements. Pull out the essential criteria, responsibilities, behaviours, experience and technical requirements, then choose evidence that matches both the wording and the scale of the role.
Grade 6 is a very senior management level. Examples should normally show ownership of a significant programme, service, policy area or professional function. The evidence should make the trade-offs, wider consequences and personal decisions clear.

What assessors usually need to see at Grade 6
The precise requirements come from the job advert. Across many Grade 6 campaigns, sift and interview evidence is strongest when it shows scale, complexity and consequences rather than a long description of duties.
- Accountability: the decision, outcome, budget, service or professional standard you personally owned.
- Strategic alignment: how the work supported organisational or wider government priorities.
- Judgement: the options, risks and trade-offs you considered, including what you stopped or changed.
- Influence: how you worked with senior leaders, partners, specialists and people affected by the work.
- Leadership through others: how managers and teams received direction, authority, resources and challenge.
- Wider results: measurable impact beyond one task or immediate team, including service, financial, customer, workforce or risk outcomes.
