How much of the personal statement should describe my current role?

How Much Career Background to Include in a Civil Service Personal Statement

Hello,

I have worked in my current private-sector role for ten years and am applying for a HEO operational delivery post.

My draft spends about 250 words explaining my job, the team structure, our customers and the services we provide. I thought the panel would need this background because the organisation is unfamiliar.

The full statement is 750 words, so the actual examples feel compressed. I also have relevant evidence from an earlier role that I want to include.

How much context does the sifter need about my current job?

Quick Answer

Give only the context needed to understand the evidence. In a 750-word statement, one or two sentences can usually explain your role before you move into the decisions, actions and outcomes that match the criteria.
