Leaving the Civil Service does not usually prevent you from applying again later. A return may be a fresh external appointment, a reinstatement or another route under the rules in force at the time. Previous service does not automatically preserve every term.

Expect a new recruitment process
Most former civil servants return through a vacancy and the relevant recruitment checks. Security vetting, pre-employment checks and probation may be required again.
Eligibility can be affected by the way you left, any formal restriction and the terms of an exit scheme.
Previous service may matter
Earlier Civil Service service can be relevant to pension, annual leave, continuity or salary decisions, but the treatment depends on the break and the applicable rules.

Exit-scheme restrictions
Voluntary exit or redundancy terms can contain repayment, re-employment or approval rules. Read the offer before accepting and keep it after leaving.
Do not rely on a general assumption about when you can return.
Civil Service departments use different contracts, policies and approval routes. Check your own contract, intranet guidance, scheme documents and any letter you have received before acting.
