Work Strengths Test Question 51 – Deciding what to do with mixed pilot results

Previous question  |  Back to question bank  |  Next question

Read the scenario and rate every action independently. More than one action can receive the same rating.

Test part: Part 2: Effectiveness ratings
Level: Grade 7 / Grade 6
Strength pair: Analytical / Problem Solver
Practice focus: Problem Solver
Difficulty: Hard

Scenario

A policy pilot produced a positive result overall, and the programme sponsor wants approval for national rollout. Participation differed widely between regions, and one region experienced worse outcomes than before the pilot. The evaluation suggests several possible causes, including local implementation and differences in the people who took part, but it cannot confirm which explanation is correct. A decision is needed before the next funding round.

Rate the actions

For each action, choose Counterproductive, Ineffective, Fairly Effective or Effective.

Action A

Send the evaluation to the sponsor without a recommendation and ask them to decide how much uncertainty is acceptable.

Rate this action:
CounterproductiveIneffectiveFairly EffectiveEffective

Action B

Approve immediate national rollout because the overall result is positive and local variation can be managed later.

Rate this action:
CounterproductiveIneffectiveFairly EffectiveEffective

Action C

Analyse the regional variation, involve the underperforming region and recommend a phased rollout with conditions for further evidence.

Rate this action:
CounterproductiveIneffectiveFairly EffectiveEffective

Action D

Extend the pilot in the regions with weak participation or poor outcomes while preparing rollout in areas with stronger evidence.

Rate this action:
