Should I explain employment gaps in the CV section?
Explaining Employment Gaps in a Civil Service CV
Hello,
I am applying for an EO role and have a 14-month gap after leaving my previous job to care for a family member. The application does not directly ask me to explain gaps, although the dates make it obvious.
I do not want to disclose private family or health information. I am also concerned that leaving the period blank will look suspicious.
Should I explain it in Employment History or Previous Skills and Experience?
Quick Answer
A brief neutral explanation is usually enough where the timeline would otherwise be unclear or the form asks for continuous history. You do not need to disclose private medical or family details. Keep the skills section focused on evidence for the vacancy.
