Why Do My Civil Service Applications Keep Scoring 4 or 5 Without Getting an Interview?
Civil Service Sift Scores, Raised Pass Marks and Moving From 4s to 6s
Hello,
I have submitted several applications for HEO and SEO roles and I am now regularly receiving scores of 4 or 5 for my CV, behaviours and personal statements.
I understand that these scores show some evidence, but I am still not being invited to interview. In one campaign I scored 5 for the CV, 5 for a behaviour and 4 for the personal statement. In another I received 4, 4 and 5.
I tailor each application to the role and use specific examples, so I am struggling to understand what would move the evidence into the 5 or 6 range consistently.
Does this mean my examples are at the wrong grade, or could I be meeting the standard but losing out because the pass mark has been raised?
Quick Answer
Scores of 4 and 5 usually indicate that assessors can see relevant evidence, but meeting a basic standard does not guarantee an interview when the campaign is competitive or the sift threshold is raised. The improvement is normally in stronger vacancy matching, clearer personal ownership and better grade-level depth rather than adding more general detail.
