SEO Behaviour Statements

SEO Success Profiles guidance

Choose the behaviour below to review the exact criteria, practical scoring method and three complete SEO-level statements.

A strong SEO behaviour statement should make the assessor see your judgement, ownership and result without having to infer how the example meets the criteria. The individual guides below separate the nine behaviours so each page can focus on the right scoring evidence.

How SEO behaviour statements are assessed

Civil Service behaviours describe actions and activities associated with effective performance. A vacancy normally selects only the behaviours relevant to the role, and the application may ask for a statement of up to 250 words for each one.

At SEO level, the evidence should normally involve ownership of a defined team, service, project or workstream. Show how you used evidence, managed stakeholders, handled risk, supported others and delivered an outcome within the authority of the grade.

Choose evidence before you start writing

Match the criteria

Choose a situation where every official bullet can be evidenced naturally.

Show personal judgement

The assessor needs your decisions and reasoning, not a description of what the team did.

Prove the result

Use credible service, delivery, quality, cost, risk or people outcomes.

Members can unlock the full SEO behaviour planning method below, including a criterion map, word-allocation guide and final test for deciding whether an example is strong enough to submit.
