Can I apply for promotion while I am still on probation?

Hello,
I joined the Civil Service four months ago and am still completing probation. A promotion vacancy has appeared in another team and I meet most of the essential criteria from my previous career.
The advert is open across government and says existing civil servants can apply. It does not clearly say whether probation must be completed, and I do not want to create a problem with my current manager.
Can I apply now, or should I wait until probation ends?

Check the advert, candidate pack and your internal recruitment or probation policy for any requirement to have passed probation.
